The contemporary conversation around the notion of gender is centered in the approach of granting the individual the right to express itself along the gender continuum. However one identifies one should be able to live one's identity freely, without coercion or bias. Nonetheless this is not the case in many of today's societies. Gender violence continues to afflict individuals, forcing gender to remain a permanently combative binary notion.
For some, everyday life is filled with the distinct possibility of gender violence, discrimination and physical harm. And yet, as the discipline responsible for the genesis of everyday objects, design has failed to either remedy , integrate of protest this situation by transforming everyday objects.
We protest. If gender identity is to become fraught with tension and violence, the objects that surround the individual should empower zie to symbolically defend the preferred gender identity. Therefore, we present to you an unorthodox jewelry collection, designed to symbolically endow the user with the means to resist aggression.
Our pieces are designed as hybrids between items of aggression and the traditional forms of jewelry design. Rings that recall knuckles, pendants that become striking tools, and jewelry with a sharp edge represents fashion with a symbolically aggressive stance.
We sincerely hope that our objects were not a necessity, and yet for some, they are. If this collection seems extreme, or even unnecessary to you, please look around, and reevaluate.
